The Midwest Double Reed Society is thrilled to announce the 2024 Double Reed Festival for oboists and bassoonists of all ages.

The Midwest Double Reed Society is pleased to present the annual Double Reed Festival, an event for double reed players of all ages and abilities. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from guest artists, hear recitals, play in masterclasses, and perform in the MDRS Double Reed Ensemble!

NEW THIS YEAR!!!! We have combined the Double Reed Festival and the Eric Varner Young Artist Competition into one weekend long event! The Double Reed Festival events will occur on Saturday, March 23 and the Eric Varner Young Artist Competition will be held on Sunday, March 24.

9:00-10:00 – Registration/Visit Exhibits. 1st floor. Vendors include Edmund Nielsen Woodwinds, Barton Cane, Carlos Oboe.

10:00-11:00 – OboeBassoonorama Double Reed Ensemble rehearsal. All are welcome! Bring your instruments! Room 118

11:00-11:30 – Break/Visit Exhibits​

11:30-1:30 – Oboe & Bassoon Master Classes.

4-4:45 – MDRS Member Recital & OboeBassoonorama Double Reed Ensemble performance.  Swarthout Recital Hall.

5:00 – MDRS Gala Recital featuring Guest Artists Dr. Nermis Mieses and Dr. Laura Bennett Cameron, with Ellen Sommer. Swarthout Recital Hall.
